Sokoto Lawmaker Advocates for Government Support as Islamiyya School Graduates 66 Students

For education in Sokoto, a local lawmaker recently called for increased government support for the Islamiyya School system as the Madarastu Najmil Huda Al-Islamiyya celebrated the graduation of 66 students.

The 5th edition ceremony, held on Monday, saw 39 female and 27 male students successfully completing their studies, with two of them having memorised the Holy Quran and ten more memorising parts of it.

The special guest of honor, Hon. Murtala Abdullahi Dos, emphasized the importance of knowledge in Islam, highlighting the first revelation to the Prophet Muhammad, “Iqra” meaning “read,” as a crucial driver in the process of human growth and development.

He further explained that Islamic education encompasses a wide range of aspects, including pity, morals, respect, discipline, and fear of God.

During the event, the lawmaker expressed concern over the lack of government support for the Islamiyya School system, despite its significant role in promoting education and religious values in the state.

He urged the government to consider extending support to the school to ensure the future development of the students and to promote the values of Islam.

Parents of the students were also encouraged to contribute more to their children’s education, as the school relies heavily on the support of the community to continue its operations.

The school’s Head Teacher, Dr. Siraj Muhammad Siraj, mentioned that the school was established in 2004 with limited resources and has since then graduated 191 students.

The successful graduation of these 66 students serves as a testament to the dedication of the school’s faculty and the potential of the Islamiyya School system to provide quality education to its students.

The call for increased government support by the Sokoto lawmaker is a step in the right direction, as it would enable the school to expand its facilities, improve its teaching methods, and offer more opportunities for students to excel in their studies.
