Governor Oyebanji Launches N12 Billion Economic Relief Programme in Ekiti State

In a move to address the economic challenges faced by the people of Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has unveiled a comprehensive Economic Relief Programme (ERP) worth N12 billion.

This timely initiative aims to provide much-needed support to the state’s residents and alleviate the impact of the current economic situation.

The N12 billion Economic Relief Programme includes a variety of measures designed to support households, formal and informal sectors, as well as state and local government workers.

The ERP consists of salary and pension arrears payments, increased subventions for autonomous institutions, and financial assistance for small-scale farmers.

One of the key components of the ERP is the payment of one month’s salary arrears to state and local government workers, totaling over N2.7 billion.

This payment will clear the salary arrears owed to state government workers and ensure that the arrears owed to local government workers are cleared this year.

In addition, Governor Oyebanji has approved an increase of N600 million per month in the subvention of autonomous institutions, including the judiciary and all tertiary institutions.

This will enable these institutions to implement the wage award for state and local government employees.

Furthermore, the governor has also approved the payment of two months’ pension arrears owed to state and local government workers, as well as a monthly gratuity payment to state pensioners.

This will provide much-needed relief to pensioners who have been affected by the economic downturn.

Recognizing the importance of food security, the ERP also includes a N1 billion commitment to improve food production in the state.

This will involve land preparation, driven by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s tractorization subsidy scheme, and an input supply program to support small-scale farmers.

The N12 billion Economic Relief Programme represents a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to support the people of Ekiti State during these challenging times.

By addressing the various sectors of the economy and providing targeted relief, Governor Oyebanji’s administration is demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of its citizens and the state’s overall economic development.
