Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Benjamin Elue, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the state and the nation.
In a condolence message issued in Abuja, Nwoko said he received news of the elder statesman’s death at the age of 85 with profound shock and grief, noting that it marked both a personal and collective loss.
The senator recalled decades of close social, cultural, and political association with the late Elue, saying their relationship was founded on mutual respect and enduring affinity. He described the octogenarian as a father figure, humble counsellor, and dependable confidant whose gentle and decent spirit left a lasting impression on all who encountered him.
According to Nwoko, Chief Elue brought rare integrity, honesty, and accountability to public office during his tenure as Deputy Governor, distinguishing himself as one of Delta State’s finest political leaders. He noted that Elue’s high moral character and disciplined approach to governance set him apart in an era often defined by excess.
“It is with immense grief that I received the sad news of the passing of Chief Benjamin Elue, former Deputy Governor of our dear state,” Nwoko stated.
“He will be remembered as an exemplary patriot and accomplished statesman who made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Delta State. His legacy of disciplined and selfless service will continue to endure.
“He was a rare breed of leader — modest, principled, and humane. His life embodied service above self and dignity in public conduct.
“Chief Elue’s death marked the end of an era, but his legacy of integrity, decency, and unwavering commitment to public service will remain indelible in the political history of Delta State.
“On behalf of my associates and the entire people of Delta North, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Elue family, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and for strength and comfort to bear the loss.”
Nwoko emphasized that while Chief Elue’s passing closes a significant chapter in Delta’s political journey, his enduring example of disciplined and selfless leadership will continue to inspire future generations.
