School resumption: Oyo Warns Principals, Teachers Against Collection Of illegal Fees

The Oyo State Government has issued a stern warning to principals and teachers against the collection of illegal fees in public primary and secondary schools.

The warning came as schools in the state resumed for the second term of the 2024 academic year on January 8th.

The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, led a team of ministry officials on a visit to some public schools in Ibadan to assess compliance with resumption.

During the visit, the commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance but emphasized that education is free from primary to secondary schools in the state.

Prof. Adelabu urged principals and teachers to desist from collecting illegal fees from students and parents, stating that the government will not tolerate illegalities in the schools.

He also encouraged students to face their studies squarely and teachers to act professionally by bringing creativity and innovation into their teaching methods.

The warning from the Oyo State Government comes at a time when many parents and guardians are struggling to pay school fees due to the current economic situation.

The government’s commitment to providing free education from primary to secondary schools is a step in the right direction in ensuring that every child has access to quality education.

It is hoped that principals and teachers will adhere to the directive and focus on providing quality education to students without putting undue financial burden on parents and guardians.
