Peter Schmeichel has backed Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya for the PFA Player of the Season award. Speaking to Viaplay, the former Manchester United shot-stopper praised Raya's performances this campaign.
Schmeichel believes Raya stands out above all other contenders. According to him, Arsenal would not be sitting atop the table without the goalkeeper's brilliance.
"There is one outstanding candidate, and that is Arsenal's goalkeeper, David Raya," Schmeichel told the broadcaster. "If you take him out of Arsenal, Arsenal are nowhere near that first position they're in now."
Freddie Ljungberg disagreed with his fellow pundit. The ex-Arsenal winger threw his support behind Manchester City's Erling Haaland instead.
Ljungberg noted Haaland's impact in crucial moments this season. "I would probably go with Haaland," he said.
"He has scored really important goals."
