A woman and her two young children narrowly escaped death on Friday after a perimeter fence collapsed on them while they were attempting to board a commercial motorcycle along Uloho Avenue in the Dotie area of Delta State.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 p.m., leaving all three victims trapped beneath the rubble before they were rescued by residents and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the woman had just approached a commercial motorcycle with her children when the fence suddenly gave way without warning.
The older child, believed to be about three years old, reportedly sustained severe injuries, while the younger child, estimated to be eight months old, was said to have lost consciousness before rescuers pulled the victims from the debris.
Residents blamed the collapse on the deteriorating condition of the fence, saying prolonged rainfall may have further weakened the structure before it caved in.
As of the time of filing this report, no deaths had been recorded. The condition of the victims had not been officially disclosed.
Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while concerned residents called for urgent inspections of aging and distressed buildings and perimeter fences to prevent similar tragedies during the rainy season.
