Sapele Butcher’s Association Chairman murdered by suspected assassins

The Sapele branch chairman of Delta Butchers Association,  Mr Michael Onyeach Nweke, has been reportedly murdered by suspected assassins at the abattoir in Sapele, Sapele Local Government area of Delta State.

A source who spoke to our correspondent anonymously said that Onyeach was allegedly killed on Saturday night at about 9pm at Sapele market abattoir where he was said to be rounding up the day’s sales.

According to her, “Onyeach was the only one left at the abattoir section of the market and he was rounding up the day’s business when three men attacked him with knives and matchet and stabbed him to death.

“Onyeach was the chairman of the Delta State Butchers Association, Sapele branch and I can’t remember him quarreling with anybody or planning evil against anyone. He is also into supply of cows and I don’t know why anybody would want to kill Onyeach” the source said in tears.

Another source said Onyeach had gone home that evening and returned to the abattoir “his house was along Itsekiri road, very close to the market and he was fond of going back to the market every night to help night guards in security issues and he was with a female friend when he was attacked.

It is a sad development. But we are calling for calm because the incident is fresh and requires thorough investigations “said the source who simply called himself Jimoh, while expressing confidence that the motive behind the murder would be uncovered by security agencies during their investigations.

Meanwhile the wife of the deceased and some family members have accused one Paulo, of been responsible for Onyeach’s death, saying that his was ungrateful and will not go unpunished.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Anieamaka could not be reached as at the time of filling in this report but a source at the Sapele Police confirmed the murder, saying “they came to report the issue last night.”

The Police source, added that there was suspicion of internal wrangling and strife within the association, adding that the police and other security agencies were working on a promising lead for possible arrest of whosoever has a hand in the murder.
