Safe Schools Project: Standard Operating Procedure to be Launched Soon by CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has announced that the Armed Forces of Nigeria is committed to providing necessary assistance for the security of school children and other learning institutions against attacks from terrorists and kidnappers within the limits of Nigeria’s constitution.

To this end, the armed forces will be launching a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) summit to support their operational activities and checkmate further attacks on schools.

Speaking at a summit on Safe Schools in Abuja, Gen Musa emphasized the need for better synergy among the military and other security agencies, particularly in the adoption of more robust approaches to boost intelligence sharing and cross-organizational capabilities.

The success of such an initiative, he said, would be vital to the successful outcomes of their efforts.

The necessity to guarantee children go to school without fear of intimidation or abduction by miscreants highlights the importance of the Safe School Initiative.

The summit, with the theme “Providing a Secure and Safe Learning Environment for the Advancement of National Development,” provides a unique opportunity to safeguard the future of children and, by extension, the future of Nigeria.

Former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Martin Luther Agwai, emphasized the importance of the Safe Schools’ Summit, as the country’s education system has been facing incessant attacks, kidnappings, and abductions of students, resulting in increased numbers of out-of-school children.

The trauma of these incidents has a lasting impact on the minds of the students, and the fear of becoming victims has negatively affected the quality of education in the country.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria’s Safe School Summit demonstrates their commitment to upholding the principles of human rights, dignity, and the right to education as enshrined in the nation’s constitution, International Humanitarian Law, and the Safe Schools Declaration, to which Nigeria is a party.
