Safe Motherhood: Seplat charges women on child spacing

Seplat Petroleum Development Company/NDPC, Sapele, Delta State organized a day seminar for nursing and expectant mothers on safe motherhood, charging women to practice child spacing to improve on the quality of their health.safe-motherhood-advocate

Speaking on the theme, “Child Spacing,” Dr. Nkem Okokwo and Dr. Ese Agbatutu, members of the Medical Women Associate of Nigeria (MWAN) Delta State Chapter urged women to plan their child birth by visiting primary health care centers for child spacing and birth control.

Participant at the programme were also advised to stop visiting traditional birth attainders to rub during pregnancy stressing that rubbing could lead to placenta complications which could endanger the mother and the baby’s life.

According to them, “visit primary health care centers near your area, plan and space your children, don’t give birth to children you cannot cater for, because lack of child spacing could lead to death of the woman.”

Seplat General Manager Corporate Affairs, Dr. Chioma Nwachukwu who represented the CEO, Mr. Austin Avuru while addressing the women stated that Seplat is committed to its corporate social responsibilities to its host communities.

She added that Seplat have been in the forefront in promoting safe delivery and infant maternal health care in its host communities, noting that the company has made huge impact not only in area of education, but also in health care.

Some of the dignitaries at the event includes; Dr. Odiko David, representative of the Commissioner of Health, Edo State, Mrs. Azike Ngozi, who represented Delta State Ministry of Oil and Gas, Mr. Godwin Ejinyere, Chairman Okpe LGA, traditional rulers amongst others.
