The Plateau Police Command has barred officers from demanding to search citizens' phones without a court warrant. Commissioner Bassey Ewah issued the directive while addressing personnel in Jos.

Alfred Alabo, the command's public relations officer, disclosed the warning in a statement on Thursday. "No personnel of this command has the legal authority to search the mobile phone of any citizen on the road without a court warrant," Alabo quoted Ewah as saying.

Ewah stressed the command's commitment to professionalism and cautioned officers against breaching conduct standards. He also urged residents to refuse any unlawful phone search attempts by police and report such incidents to their nearest station.

Alabo advised state residents to report harassment cases using these lines: 08034448617, 08060545670, 08037681026, 09016146804, and 09051145757. The police command reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding the lives, property and rights of law-abiding citizens in line with international standards.
