The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of illegally possessing a human skull following an intelligence-driven operation targeting criminal activity across the state.

Police Public Relations Officer Ayanlade Oluseyi Olayinka said officers received credible intelligence about a suspect with the item in his possession.

Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga ordered a joint operation involving police operatives and Amotekun Corps to act on the tip.

During the raid, officers apprehended Shittu Isah of Kajola Area in Ijio and recovered the skull suspected to be human remains. They immediately took him into custody for questioning.

Under interrogation, Shittu Isah admitted he'd dug up the skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio, according to the force.

He told investigators he didn't work alone, leading police to arrest a second suspect, Tunde Ajibade, who's now helping with inquiries.

Investigators have preserved the recovered item for forensic analysis to determine what it actually is.

Police say they're working to establish why the men took the skull, who else might be involved, and the full details of what happened.

The command said in a statement it remains committed to protecting residents and bringing those responsible to justice.

Police urged members of the public to share information with security agencies that could help prevent and fight crime across Oyo State.
