Police kill four armed robbers in Delta

Men of the Anti-Crime Patrol Squad, Nigeria Police Force, Sapele division, Sapele, Delta State, Wednesday killed four armed robbery suspects following a shootout with operatives.

Our reporter gathered that luck ran out of the four-man robbery gang that have been terrorizing Sapele and its environs recently following a tipoff by men of the Vigilante who alerted the police of ongoing robbery operation.

Narrating the incident; a police source who pleaded for anonymity told ADVOCATE that the robbers had been on rampage in Sapele and its environs and have been on the police wanted list for some time now.

According to him, “they went and rob at several places last night and on getting to De Rosca Hotel at Adeola Road in Sapele, men of the Vigilante alerted the police, who arrived at the scene on time and with a combine effort, the police surrounded the hotel” he said.

“On sighting the police, the robbers shot at us (the police) first and in the resulting gun battle, 3 of the robbers were shot while one who escaped with gunshot injuries was later caught, and he confessed that three of them came from Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State, while the Kingpin called Ahmed came from Sapele, before he gave up the ghost from the injuries sustained” he added.

Confirming the report, the Delta State Police Command spokesman, Andrew Anieamaka who spoke on the telephone chat with ADVOCATE, said the “hoodlums met their waterloo in the early hours of this morning when they invaded a brothel along Adeola by Crudas road junction in Sapele.”

Items recovered from the robbers include one shot gun, four empty cartridges, mask, and a touch which are currently in the custody of the police.

Activities of hoodlums in the ancient town recently have been on the rise, on Saturday, robbers were said to have robbed a widow, raping her 12 years old daughter right before her eyes.

Recently dare devil robbers killed a night guard attached a Phone shop by Major Bowen junction area of the town, while just yesterday two tricycles said to be stolen in Benin City were recovered by men of the Sapele division.
