Police in Bauchi State have arrested four men in Azare over alleged criminal conspiracy and adultery. They're also accused of inciting public disturbance in their community.
Hisbah officials in Katagum Zone brought the suspects to Azare Division after gathering intelligence on their activities. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the arrests in a report.
Police identified them as Bashir Adamu, Auwalu Mohammed, Mohammed Mohammed, and Salisu Mohammed. All hail from different areas within Azare town.
According to authorities, the four men allegedly agreed to exchange their wives for sex. Such an arrangement, police noted, risked causing community disorder.
"The suspects were brought to the station by Hisbah officials following intelligence on their alleged arrangement to exchange spouses, which may likely cause breach of peace in the community," a police source told Makama.
Investigators are still working on the case. Police say they'll pursue appropriate legal action once their inquiries conclude.
