Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has ordered heightened security around Katsina schools. The move aims to shield students, teachers, and facilities from ongoing security threats.
Deputy Inspector-General Sulaiman Abdul delivered the order during a two-day visit to the state. He told officials the Katsina command must strengthen patrols immediately.
Abdul outlined specific measures for the deployment. Enhanced surveillance, intelligence gathering, and visible police presence at schools are now mandatory across Katsina.
According to the DIG, the plan targets criminal deterrence. It'll also boost emergency response and create safer learning spaces for students.
Abdul visited the Police Children School in Charanchi Local Government Area. He also inspected the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College during his tour.
Security infrastructure received close scrutiny during both visits. The DIG examined perimeter walls, gates, checkpoints, and police officer placements.
He met separately with school principals and administrators. These discussions centred on safety gaps and existing security worries.
Collaboration between schools and security forces was a key topic. Abdul stressed the need for better emergency readiness against potential attacks.
School leaders must tighten access control measures, he insisted. Staff should watch for suspicious behaviour and report incidents to police without delay.
Katsina has faced repeated abductions and bandit attacks on educational institutions. Hundreds of students were kidnapped in recent years from various schools.
Abdul reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to school protection. He vowed officers will work to ensure students and teachers feel secure.
