Emmanuel Petit wants Thomas Tuchel to bench Bukayo Saka. The former France star believes the Arsenal winger shouldn't start England's World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday.

Petit pointed to Saka's performance in last season's Champions League final. He said the 24-year-old struggled badly that night against Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Petit was blunt about his assessment. "He doesn't make any impact anymore," the ex-international stated.

According to Petit, other players deserve the starting berth more. He noted that Saka isn't a generational talent who can perform below his best.

"We're not talking about Zidane or Messi, that kind of player, who even at 60 per cent, they should be on the pitch," Petit explained. "Saka is not that kind of player."

Petit's comments come as England prepares for their tournament campaign. Tuchel will make his final decision on the lineup soon.
