With a long (third term) break finally over, primary and secondary schools in Nigeria are resuming for the first academic term. However, parents and guardians all over the nation are feeling the pinch of a tough economy and rising fees.
The economy was in a terrible state when schools resumed in Nigeria. The fuel price had skyrocketed to a shocking N615 per litre, more than three times the N197 per litre in the last academic term. The fuel subsidy had been removed by the federal government, sparking a nationwide protest.
The beginning of the academic year brings a lot of changes for many learners and students. They have to get new things like uniforms, textbooks, and more, which put a lot of financial pressure on their parents who are already finding it hard to cope. To make things even worse, many schools in the FCT and other states have secretly increased their fees and other charges.
