P-GAT Industries Ltd has launched a N300 billion mobility initiative targeting the Northeast. The programme aims to slash transport costs and create jobs across the region.

Prime Timothy, who chairs the company, made the announcement at a press briefing in Numan, Adamawa State on Thursday. He said rising transportation expenses have burdened citizens and businesses nationwide.

According to Timothy, the Fleet Integration and Transition Programme will modernise the transport sector. It'll introduce electric vehicles and expand charging infrastructure across affected areas.

The initiative seeks to lower operational costs significantly. Affordable mobility will improve access to education, jobs, and markets, he noted.

Timothy disclosed that N150 billion of the total investment targets Northeast Nigeria. The funds will be deployed over the next three years.

About 50,000 direct jobs will emerge from the project. An additional 50,000 indirect positions will be created in transport, logistics, technology and renewable energy.

Security improvements in the Northeast have made the region attractive to investors again. Timothy commended federal agencies, traditional rulers and communities for their efforts.

He acknowledged that insecurity concerns had previously deterred investment. But he insisted that peace has been substantially restored in recent times.

"The Northeast is open for business," Timothy told reporters at the venue. He urged investors to focus on opportunities rather than outdated negative narratives.

Social media often amplifies misleading stories about the region, he added. Development partners should look beyond such portrayals, in his view.

P-GAT will host the Affordable Transport and Solutions Mobility Transition Summit next year. The event takes place on June 20 in Numan.

Stakeholders will gather to tackle transportation challenges at the summit. Industry leaders, policymakers and investors are expected to participate.

The company will unveil its ATRaS Mobility Ecosystem at the event. It's a platform combining electric vehicles, charging stations, financing and driver training programmes.

This ecosystem will transform how people move around the Northeast. Integration of logistics services ensures comprehensive solutions across sectors.
