Oyo State Government Issues Seven-Day Quit Notice to Roadside Traders

The Oyo State Government has taken a firm stance on the issue of illegally erected kiosks, containers, shanties, and business operations on the roadside.

The state's Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbojuola, issued a seven-day ultimatum to occupants and owners of these structures during his visit to the Ojoo community in the Akinyele Local Government Area.

Mogbojubola stressed that the activities of these roadside traders have been causing a significant nuisance to public health and obstructing the free flow of traffic, thereby endangering the lives of passers-by and vehicles.

This is in direct violation of the Environmental Sanitation Regulation, 2013.

The Commissioner emphasized that all illegal operations must be halted immediately, and occupants must vacate the roadside and drainages within seven days.

He further advised that business activities should be relocated to more suitable places, such as neighborhood markets, in order to prevent road accidents and loss of lives and property.

This move by the Oyo State Government is a clear indication of its commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for its citizens.

It remains to be seen how the affected roadside traders will respond to this seven-day quit notice and whether they will comply with the government's directive to relocate their businesses.
