Over 100 million naira needed to fix vandalize BEDC equipments in Patani and Bomadi- BEDC state boss

The Delta State Head of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company BEDC, Ernest Edgar, has said the electricity company will spend more than One hundred million naira to repair the vandalized Patani and Bomadi Electricity Transmission Line.

Addressing newsmen shortly after an inspection tour of Patani transmission line at Patani, Mr. Edgar disclosed to newsmen that, all the conductors supplying power to the area has been vandalized and stolen.

 

 

Since about a year ago or more than, Patani and Bomadi towns and environs have been in darkness due to the activities of hoodlums that specialises in the vandalization of the company conductors.

 

 

Mr. Edgar who expressed bitterness over the incessant vandalization of the company’s properties in the area, called for a better collaboration between the community to ensure that BEDC  properties in the area is well secured.

 

 

Accompanied in the tour by the Ughelli Area Business Manager,  the team also visited Bomadi town which also suffers same problem for a period now due to the activities of vandals.

 

 

Commenting on this, Mr. Edgar said, though the police have arrested some culprit, but appealed to the law enforcement agents to ensure that those arrested are duly prosecuted and face the wrath of the law to serve as deterrent to others.

 

 

 

Describing the heinous activities of the vandals as pure evil, the electricity boss revealed that conductors supplying power to Bomadi and environs where laid beside the Bomadi bridge, but said because of the incessant vandalization, the BEDC  in partnership with the Delta State Government is building a number of tower across the Bomadi river in other to avoid the continuos theft of cables. He called on the community to corporate with BEDC to ensure the initiative become  a fruitful one.

 

 

While commending the cooperation and support of the Patani light committee, Mr. Edgar maintained that if every community in Delta State can put such committees in their various community, the job of securing the BEDC properties would be minimized. He also thanked both the Patani and Bomadi local government chairmen for their supports, and cooperation.

 

 

The inspection team also visited the 7.5KVA substation sited in Bomadi, disclosing that when hooked up to the main power grade, the 7.5KVA transformer will be able to serve the entire Bomadi and environs. He promised to do all within the company power to see that the facility which has been abandoned for years is fixed and working to serve customers.

 

 

The state head of the company who was also joined by the Company Technical Officer CTO, Mr. Actual an Indian, later visited Afiesere community that has also been in the dark for the past two years. The first point of call was the three transformers in the community before proceeding to the 33KVA substation at Ogbavwan community and as well to the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN substation also in the area.

 

 

Mr. Edgar later solicit the cooperation of consumers in the community in the area of paymentas of bills, as plans are on for the bulk metre system.

 

 

The inspection tour team was also joined by the Ughelli Service Manager and other top staff of the company.
