The Supreme Leader and National Coordinator of the Movement for the Emancipation of Ndokwa Nation, Comrade Opia Joshua Ojieh, has called on all Deltans, especially those from Delta North Senatorial District, to unite in support of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ned Nwoko.
The appeal was made during a meeting with PDP loyalists and youths at his residence in Kwale, Ndokwa West LGA, following his return from the United Kingdom.
Opia, who also serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, urged the people of Delta North to avoid unnecessary political infighting and distractions, allowing both Senator Nwoko and Governor Oborevwori to complete their first terms successfully.
He emphasized that Senator Nwoko is working diligently to address critical issues affecting the region, particularly the long-standing power supply problems in Ndokwa Nation.
He highlighted Senator Nwoko's efforts to restore electricity to the region through the stepping down of the Independent Power Plant (IPP) projects. Ndokwa Nation, especially Kwale, has been without steady electricity for over two decades despite hosting several international companies. Opia praised Nwoko for being the only prominent politician in the area consistently advocating for these vital issues, in contrast to others who have remained silent.
Addressing rumors of a political rift between Senator Nwoko and Governor Oborevwori, Opia refuted such claims, clarifying that the Senator’s request for state government intervention in projects like the IPP and Ogwashi-Uku dam should be seen as advocacy for regional development, not conflict. "The Senator merely requested the state's involvement in these crucial projects, which are essential for the development of Delta North," he explained.
Opia also responded to recent criticisms of Senator Nwoko by Hon. Obule, urging him to focus on political issues within his local government area rather than creating unnecessary tension in Delta North.
He affirmed the strong partnership between Senator Nwoko and Governor Oborevwori and reminded the public that Nwoko, as the only PDP Senator from Delta State, deserves the full backing of the party and the people.
Opia further addressed rumors regarding former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s alleged plan to return to the Senate, categorically dismissing any such political arrangement. He argued that after Senator Nwoko's second term, it would be Ndokwa Nation’s turn to produce the next Senator from Delta North, in line with the district's rotational representation among its major ethnic groups. He called on the people of Delta North to prepare for Ndokwa's leadership at the Senate.
He condemned those attempting to undermine Senator Nwoko’s efforts, stating that the senator’s advocacy for the welfare of his constituents is both a duty and a constitutional right. Opia questioned why Ndokwa Nation should continue to endure neglect, stating that such treatment would not be tolerated in regions like Ijaw, Isoko, or Urhobo.
Comrade Opia also called on the people of Ndokwa to stand firmly behind Senator Nwoko, who has done an outstanding job representing them at the National Assembly, and to support Governor Oborevwori as both leaders work towards fulfilling their mandates to the people of Delta State. He emphasized that unity and focus are essential for the progress of Delta North, and internal political squabbles should not distract from the collective goal of development.
