Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has donated five brand-new operational vehicles, popularly known as Green Marias, to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), reaffirming his administration's commitment to strengthening security, the justice system, and the rule of law across the state.

The vehicles were presented on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba, in a ceremony that underscored the Governor's resolve to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies under the fourth pillar of his MORE Agenda, which prioritises enhanced peace and security.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori said the donation reflects the state's continued partnership with federal security institutions in ensuring a safer and more secure Delta.

According to him, an effective correctional service depends on reliable logistics and operational mobility, stressing that the vehicles would significantly improve the efficiency of correctional officers in carrying out their statutory responsibilities.

"These operational vehicles will enhance the day-to-day activities of officers, improve response capacity, strengthen supervision and coordination, and support the effective discharge of their responsibilities. By equipping the Command with the tools it needs to perform optimally, we are reinforcing our commitment to a more efficient justice and security system," the Governor stated.

Oborevwori noted that although the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role remains indispensable in safeguarding lives and property, making collaboration between the state government and federal security agencies imperative.

"The presentation of these five brand-new operational vehicles is a practical demonstration of our resolve to strengthen the justice system and support institutions responsible for maintaining peace, security and the rule of law. While the Nigerian Correctional Service is a federal institution, its role is critical to the safety, security and well-being of our people. That is why, under the fourth pillar of our MORE Agenda—Enhanced Peace and Security—we will continue to support and partner with federal security agencies. A secure and peaceful Delta State remains the foundation for sustainable development and shared prosperity," he said.

The Governor charged officers of the Command to ensure the vehicles are properly maintained and deployed strictly for official duties, urging them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability and discipline.

"I urge you to maintain these vehicles properly and ensure they are used solely for their intended purpose, with the highest standards of professionalism and accountability," he added.

Responding on behalf of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, the Controller of Corrections, Delta State Command, Mr. Chuke Idoko, expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori and the Delta State Government for the timely intervention.

He assured that the operational vehicles would be judiciously utilised to improve service delivery, strengthen inmate transportation and enhance the Command's operational effectiveness across the state.

The presentation was witnessed by the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, members of the State Executive Council, senior government officials, and top officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
