FIFA has rejected France's appeal to cancel Michael Olise's yellow card before Thursday's World Cup quarter-final against Morocco. The Bayern Munich winger remains one booking away from missing the semi-finals if France reaches that stage.

Olise picked up the caution during France's 1-0 Round of 16 win over Paraguay. Video footage showed him grabbing an opponent's shirt without making head contact, but the French Football Federation's challenge didn't persuade FIFA to overturn the decision.

Head coach Didier Deschamps revealed the ruling at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday. "There was no change when it comes to Olise's yellow card.

We received FIFA's decision this morning that the yellow card was maintained," he said.

The situation puts Olise in a delicate position for the Boston clash. Any second booking will sideline him from a potential semi-final appearance, forcing him to balance aggression with caution in a crucial match.

The incident occurred when Olise tangled with Paraguay midfielder Matías Galarza in the closing stages. France's football federation argued the contact didn't justify a yellow card, but referees' decisions at the tournament stage aren't easily reversed.

Deschamps now faces the challenge of managing Olise's playing style against Morocco without losing the winger's attacking threat. The French will need to be tactically aware given their star player's precarious disciplinary status.

France had hoped FIFA would show leniency, believing the ruling could undermine their World Cup ambitions. Instead, they'll proceed with Olise operating under strict instructions to avoid further trouble.
