Marc Guéhi can't wait to go head-to-head with his Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland when England faces Norway in Saturday's World Cup quarter-final. The defender described the clash as "fun" and relished the prospect of testing himself against one of the world's deadliest strikers.
Guéhi and fellow City defender Nico O'Reilly starred as England pulled off a stunning 3-2 comeback against Mexico in the Round of 16. The victory ranks among England's greatest World Cup performances.
Thomas Tuchel's side will travel to Miami on Saturday, July 11, to take on Norway with a semi-final spot on the line. Haaland has been electric throughout the tournament, netting seven goals so far.
The Norwegian striker bagged a brace in his country's shock 2-1 win over Brazil in the last round. Former Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb is also in the Norwegian squad.
"It's going to be fun," Guéhi told The Lions Den podcast. "I know he will be up for it."
He added: "It's going to be a challenge. It will be good to see some familiar faces, and we're going to try our best and get the win."
O'Reilly warned England cannot rest on their Mexico heroics. The defender said the team must stay sharp ahead of the quarter-final tie.
"To make the quarter-finals is special, a great feeling, but we haven't really got time to celebrate yet," O'Reilly told reporters. "We've got another tough game coming."
He continued: "Every team's going to be tough, and we need to be ready. The Mexico match was the most baffling game I've ever played in."
O'Reilly praised the travelling supporters who packed the Azteca Stadium. "The fans were unbelievable, but we got through it, and now we're in the quarter-finals," he said.
Back home, millions of fans stayed up through the night to watch England's dramatic comeback unfold. The result has already cemented itself in the nation's World Cup folklore.
Now Tuchel's men must overcome a Norway side powered by Haaland's genius if they hope to keep their World Cup dreams alive. The quarter-final showdown promises to be a thrilling encounter.
