The Governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, felicitated with all Deltans as they stepped into 2018 and expressed gratitude to God for the grace granted Delta State and its citizens in 2017.
Praying for the unity and peace in the state, which, he noted “is the bedrock of meaningful development in any given society,” he expressed the hope that 2018 will be a year of greater fulfilment.
He said: “Given our strides in the past two years and seven months in office, I have no doubt that with the same level of cooperation from the good people of Delta State, our government will achieve more in all facets of governance.
“My optimism is driven from the support I enjoy from the legislature, the judiciary, the civil service, my team of political appointees, agencies of government, both at the federal and the state levels, as well as multilateral donor agencies.”
Noting that as one of the first states to sign her 2018 budget into law, Governor Okowa said the state is better positioned to witness more infrastructural development especially as peace  has returned to the Niger Delta region.
“With the increase in the revenue projections, we will do our best to ensure that the developmental needs of the state are attended to by applying the same level of prudence and ingenuity that we used to navigate the stormy waters ,” he said.
He appealed to all Deltans to look up to the New Year with the same zeal of a people with a capacity to excel even in difficult situations and noted that “Delta people have always been identified for their creativity. Despite several challenges we have had to contend with as a State, I believe that we can all look forward to 2018 and beyond with greater optimism and hope. We remain fully committed to delivering on our SMART Agenda which will see more people empowered and more projects delivered in the new year.
“This administration remains dedicated to pursuing more people-oriented policies and programmes, which have direct bearing on the lives of our people. It is my sincere hope and assurance that the New Year 2018 would usher in more progress, greater prosperity and endearing fulfilment for all Deltans”
While wishing Deltans and indeed all Nigerians a prosperous new year, Okowa called on all Deltans, Nigerians to extend goodwill to others in the spirit of the new year.
“I wish all Deltans and indeed all Nigerians, a Happy and Prosperous New Year as I pray for the warmth of God’s love to fill every heart and home,” he added.
