Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom has strongly condemned a defamatory online report targeting the kingdom's traditional ruler, His Majesty, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku. In a statement, the palace denounced the publication as an attempt to damage the monarch’s reputation.

The report accused the Obi of land-grabbing, arming violent groups, kidnapping, and allegedly being convicted overseas for the theft of $300 worth of computers before his enthronement. However, palace sources clarified that at the time of the alleged incident, His Majesty was studying for a Master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Edinburgh, not in the United States.

A statement from the Palace Secretary, Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, labelled the report as part of a smear campaign orchestrated by individuals seeking to destabilize the kingdom. "This malicious story is part of an ongoing campaign against His Majesty and his family, launched by individuals aiming to disrupt the peace and integrity of the Ogwashi-Uku community," Emordi stated.

The palace named Barrister Mayor Okolie and Elumunor Adigwe as the primary sponsors of this defamatory campaign, alleging that they are facing charges of terrorism, inciting inter-communal violence, attacking a traditional ruler, attempted murder, and destruction of police and vigilante property. These charges are currently under trial at the Federal High Court in Asaba, following an alleged attack on the monarch in October 2023.

The statement further implicated Ugo Emordi and other individuals, claiming they are facing charges related to murder, arson, and rape at the Delta State High Courts.

His Majesty, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, is described as a well-educated and highly respected monarch with a Doctorate in Economics and History. He is actively working to counteract the influence of individuals determined to sow discord and seize control of community resources. The palace emphasized that the allegations are baseless and that they intend to take legal action to address the defamatory claims. "His Majesty reaffirms his commitment to transparency and lawfulness and welcomes any investigation by the appropriate agencies," the statement concluded.

The palace also highlighted that such defamatory stories would not deter the Obi’s dedication to improving the welfare of his people, drawing a parallel to how prominent leaders, even amid accusations, continue to serve their communities.
