As Delta State approaches the second anniversary of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's administration, the state government has unveiled a broad spectrum of achievements spanning rural infrastructure, healthcare, security, and job creation.
At a press briefing in Asaba on Thursday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, highlighted the Governor’s commitment to inclusive development and prudent resource management.
“In almost two years, we have seen bold and remarkable achievements by Governor Oborevwori and his team,” Aniagwu said. “Travel time from Asaba to Ughelli has been reduced to one hour and forty-five minutes due to road interventions, and long-neglected coastal communities are now being connected.”
Projects such as the Trans-Warri bridges and access roads are progressing steadily, Aniagwu said, bringing vital infrastructure to riverside and creek communities like Ode-Itsekiri. The revival of work on the Ayakoromo Bridge in Burutu Local Government Area was also cited as a major breakthrough for connecting previously isolated areas.
“The Beneku Bridge, Ishiagu-Ewulu Road and Bridge, Erejuwa Roads in Warri, and erosion control works in Okpanam are just a few of the numerous completed or ongoing projects,” Aniagwu noted.
Due to the volume of completed works, the government plans to inaugurate many of the projects in phases, with some being opened for public use even without formal commissioning.
In the health sector, the administration has upgraded facilities and installed modern medical equipment at Asaba Specialist Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, and Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, significantly improving healthcare delivery and reducing the need for medical travel.
To tackle rising housing demands, Aniagwu revealed that the government is building 50 housing units in each local government area, with pilot projects already underway in Ozoro, Owa-Oyibu, and Kwale, featuring a mix of three- and two-bedroom flats.
On job creation, over 250,000 Deltans have reportedly benefited from empowerment initiatives, including the D-CARES grant programme, coordinated across multiple ministries and agencies.
Aniagwu assured the public that security remains a top priority. “We have improved street lighting in urban centres and recently received support from the Inspector General of Police, who commissioned operational vehicles for law enforcement,” he said.
Reiterating the Governor’s directive to maintain focus despite rising political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, Aniagwu stressed that governance will not take a back seat.
“Governor Oborevwori has instructed all cabinet members to remain focused on delivering results. Projects are certified and paid for promptly, ensuring transparency and accountability.”
Addressing public skepticism, Aniagwu dismissed claims that the administration was losing momentum.
“Anyone suggesting that this government is losing grip is misinformed. We remain committed to results, transparency, and service delivery.”
As the state gears up to mark the second anniversary of Governor Oborevwori’s administration, the message from the government is clear: the work is far from over. With multiple projects lined up for commissioning and more in progress, the administration insists it will continue to build on its achievements with a people-focused approach.
