Oborevwori mourns DBS broadcaster, Vivian Nkechika, calls death a huge loss

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba presenter, Miss Vivian Nkechika, describing her passing as a major loss to the journalism profession and the state at large.

Miss Nkechika, an indigene of Ekwuoma in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, was an Assistant Manager in the Programmes Department of DBS Asaba. She reportedly died on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, following complications arising from a domestic gas explosion.

In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased, the management and staff of DBS Asaba, media practitioners across the state, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council.

The Governor described the late broadcaster as a dedicated and consummate professional whose career was defined by diligence, ethical practice and a strong sense of responsibility to the public.

He noted that her passion for public enlightenment, factual reporting and responsible journalism endeared her to colleagues and earned her widespread respect within the media community.

“This is indeed a moment of deep sadness. Delta State has lost a vibrant, principled and committed media practitioner whose voice contributed immensely to informing, educating and enlightening the public,” the Governor said.

Governor Oborevwori prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and urged her family, colleagues and the entire media community to take solace in her impactful life and professional legacy.
