The Delta State Government has announced plans to host a major security summit aimed at strengthening collaboration among security agencies, community leaders and other stakeholders in tackling emerging security threats across the state.
The summit, themed "Security: A Collective Responsibility," is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, the summit will be hosted by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen peace, enhance public safety and reinforce the state's security architecture.
The high-level gathering is expected to bring together key stakeholders from across Delta State to deliberate on practical strategies for combating criminality and sustaining peace in communities.
Expected participants include security chiefs, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Presidents-General of communities, ethnic and community youth leaders, civil society organisations, transport unions and market women associations.
Dr. Emu said the summit reflects the Oborevwori administration's commitment to fostering a safer Delta through broad-based consultation, partnership and collective action.
According to him, security cannot be left to government and security agencies alone, stressing that every citizen and stakeholder has a role to play in protecting lives, property and public institutions.
"The summit underscores the importance of inclusive engagement in addressing security challenges and promoting sustainable peace across the state," the SSG stated.
He noted that discussions at the summit would focus on strengthening cooperation between communities and security agencies, identifying emerging threats and developing effective responses to criminal activities.
The state government urged all invited stakeholders to participate actively and contribute ideas that would help build a more secure environment for residents and businesses.
Observers say the summit comes at a critical time as governments across the country seek innovative and community-driven approaches to addressing insecurity, while fostering stronger partnerships between citizens and law enforcement agencies.
The event is expected to produce actionable recommendations that will support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, cultism, drug-related crimes and other threats to public safety in Delta State.
