Obaseki throws weight behind PMAN performance permit in Edo

Edo State Governor,  Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki has thrown his weight behind the implementation of the Performance Permit on entertainers in the State.

Mr. Obaseki made this known while playing host to the leadership of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria,  PMAN, Edo State chapter,  led by their State Chairman, Comrade Willy Eghe-Nova on a courtesy visit to the Governor in Government House.

Mr. Obaseki said that the association’s initiative of introducing performance permit will regulate the music industry maintaining that PMAN should collaborate with the Ministry of Arts, Culture,  Tourism and Diaspora Affairs in the State to ensure the smooth implementation of the permit.

He promised that a bus and a piece of  land will be donated to the association to enable them build the Musician’s Complex near the Edo creative hub so they can access facilities at the hub to boost their activities.

He said that the association should use their music to promote the cultural values of the Edos for the overall development of the State.

Earlier, Comrade Eghe-Nova told the Governor that after wide consultation with stakeholders in the industry, a performance permit was introduced to put an end to the cases of fraudulent practices by members and to also serve as a means of generating revenue for the association and the state.

He appealed to the Governor for a grant for Edo PMAN Trust Fund designed to take care of ailing musicians who are presently incapacitated among other issues.

He called on the Governor to support the music industry as it has the ability to provide jobs for people.

He pledged the association’s unalloyed support for his second term bid.
