Obasanjo’s Advice to Tinubu: Devolving Power to Address Nigeria’s Economic Crisis

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo shared his thoughts on how President Bola Tinubu’s administration can tackle the ongoing economic hardship in the country.

Represented by former Governor of Niger State Babangida Aliyu, Obasanjo advocated for the devolution of power and resources from the federal government to state and local governments as a key solution to the crisis.

According to Obasanjo, the current economic crisis is a result of a lack of productivity among Nigerians and mismanagement of resources.

He believes that decentralizing power and resources will decrease competition at the central level and allow for better management of resources at the local level.

During the public presentation of the book “Court and Politics” by Dr. Umar Ardo, the ex-president emphasized that Nigeria must continue to develop its political system, stating that 24 years of practicing the presidential system is not enough.

The Chairman of the book launch committee, Shehu Musa Gabam, also shared his thoughts on the matter.

He pointed out that Nigeria’s political and electoral process is hindered by the courts’ tendency to base their judgments on technicalities rather than the facts of the issues.

Gabam called on Nigerians to unite and be courageous in demanding that the authorities do the right thing.

As President Bola Tinubu’s administration faces the challenge of addressing Nigeria’s economic crisis, the advice and insights of influential figures like Olusegun Obasanjo and Shehu Musa Gabam could prove invaluable in shaping the country’s future.

The need for unity, courage, and a focus on facts over technicalities is crucial in ensuring Nigeria’s political and economic progress.
