Edo 2024: Orbih, Shaibu, and PDP Leaders Unite Against Obaseki and Ighodalo

Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-south, has publicly renounced his membership in the PDP Campaign Council for the Edo State governorship election.
This declaration was made at a recent meeting of the Edo North PDP (Legacy) leaders in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
Orbih’s decision comes amidst growing discontent within the PDP in Edo State, with the group led by Governor Godwin Obaseki and his chosen candidate, Asue Ighodalo, being criticized for their leadership.
Orbih expressed disappointment in Obaseki’s leadership since joining the party in 2020, stating that the governor has abandoned the group that supported and voted for his re-election.
The meeting was attended by several prominent PDP leaders, including former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, and former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.
All expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state of the PDP in Edo State and pledged to work together to ensure the best outcome for the upcoming governorship election.
Adjoto criticized Obaseki for failing to manage the success of the 2020 election victory, stating that instead of rewarding those who contributed to his re-election, the governor opted for other individuals within the party who did not play a significant role in the victory.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu emphasized the importance of supporting a candidate who understands the problems and challenges faced by the people of Edo State.
He declared his support for the Orbih-led PDP legacy group, stating that they will not support Ighodalo in the upcoming election.
The meeting highlighted the divisions within the PDP in Edo State, with the Orbih-led legacy group determined to chart a different course for the party in the state.
As the Edo State governorship election approaches, it remains to be seen how this internal conflict within the PDP will affect the outcome of the election and the future of the party in the state.
