The chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth and Community Engagement, Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), has announced that the recently passed National Youths Service Corps Trust Fund Bill will create job opportunities for graduates.
Speaking during an official visit to the Oyo State NYSC Orientation Camp at Iseyin on Saturday, Adaramodu said that the bill, which has passed first and second readings and other legislative processes, is awaiting the President’s assent.
The provisions of the bill are aimed at ensuring that corps members acquire the necessary skills through the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which will enable them to establish themselves after completing their service year.
Adaramodu also mentioned that the bill caters to corps members who wish to venture into business after their service year.
He emphasized that the bill’s passage would make the dreams of every Nigerian graduate a reality and address the issue of unemployment.
The Senate, in collaboration with relevant government departments, agencies, and other stakeholders, is also working on the upward review of corps members’ allowances to ensure that they are adequately compensated for their service.
The NYSC Trust Fund Bill represents a major step towards providing Nigerian graduates with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in the workforce, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to combat unemployment.
