The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the invalidation of Certificates of National Service for 101 individuals fraudulently mobilized from the University of Calabar between the 2021 and 2023 service years. Of these, 99 were mobilized for service, while two were granted exemptions under false pretenses. In a statement issued on Monday by Eddy Megwa, NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, the organization emphasized its commitment to ensuring that only qualified graduates from accredited institutions receive NYSC certificates. The NYSC also urged the public, particularly employers and other stakeholders, to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates through the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja. “This is to inform members of the public that the under-listed Ninety-Nine (99) persons and two (2) others on exemption were fraudulently mobilized by the University of Calabar for National Service during the 2021, 2022 and 2023 NYSC Service Years,” the statement read. The NYSC reiterated its stance on upholding the integrity of the National Service by denying recognition to unqualified graduates, especially those from unaccredited universities. The organization urged all relevant entities to take note of the invalidated certificates and to confirm the validity of any NYSC-related documents presented to them.
