Nigerian Senate Passes Bill for Federal University of Technology, Ilaro Upgrade

For Nigeria’s higher education and technological advancement, the Senate recently passed a bill seeking to establish the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, aims to upgrade the existing Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, which has been providing quality education for over four decades.

During the Senate’s Thursday session, Senator Adeola presented the general principles of the bill and highlighted the benefits the proposed university would bring to the South Western region of Nigeria.

He emphasized that Ogun State, known for its technological development, would greatly benefit from the establishment of a University of Technology in the area.

The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, was established in 1978 and has since earned accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The institution currently offers degree programs in various fields, making the transition to a full-fledged university a logical next step in its growth.

Senator Ali Ndume, who served his National Youth Service in Ilaro in 1979, expressed his support for the bill, citing his familiarity with the area and the existing infrastructure that would facilitate the university’s establishment.

Senator Sani Musa echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of technology in today’s world and the need for Nigeria to keep pace with global trends.

With the Senate passing the bill through voice votes, the proposed Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The establishment of this institution would significantly contribute to Nigeria’s technological development and educational infrastructure, particularly in the South Western region.

As the bill progresses to the House of Representatives for further consideration, the nation eagerly awaits the outcome and the potential impact this university could have on the future of education and technology in Nigeria.
