Nigerian referee Akintoye to officiate in CAF Women’s Champions League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has chosen Yemisi Akintoye, a Nigerian female referee, as one of the 12 referees for the 2023 African Women’s Champions League. She is a University of Lagos graduate and became a FIFA referee in 2021. She will be making her debut in a major African tournament.

Another notable referee is Salma Musaganda of Rwanda, who made history as the first African woman referee to officiate at the men’s World Cup. CAF announced their selection on Monday after a one-week pre-tournament course.
