Nigerian Law School Fee Hike: House of Reps Urges Suspension and Seeks Solutions

The Nigerian House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian Law School to suspend the 60% increment in tuition fees for students.

This resolution was reached on February 21, 2024, following a motion moved by Obinna Ginger on behalf of Kingsley Chinda, who was not present to take his motion.

Ginger explained that the Council of Legal Education announced the fee increase for the 2024 session, raising the fee from N296,000 to ₦476,000 for the 2023/2024 Bar Part II academic session.

He expressed concern that the increment could lead to a significant decrease in the number of Nigerian law school students.

In response to this issue, the House of Representatives directed the Committee on Tertiary Education and Services to explore solutions and report back within two weeks.

This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that education remains accessible and affordable to all Nigerian students.

The Nigerian House of Representatives has taken a decisive step in addressing the Nigerian Law School fee hike by urging the suspension of the 60% increment and seeking solutions from the relevant committee.

This action will hopefully lead to a more equitable and accessible education system for aspiring legal professionals in the country.
