Nigerian Army Debunks Coup Rumours: A Reassurance of Commitment to Democracy

The Nigerian Army has issued a statement dismissing rumors of a possible coup against the President Bola Tinubu administration.

The rumors, which were circulated by an online publication, alleged that the presidential guards were on high alert due to suspicions of a coup plot in Nigeria.

However, the Nigerian Army has strongly refuted these claims, emphasizing that the rumors are false and that the Guards Brigade has always been on high alert to effectively carry out its assigned tasks.

In response to the rumors, the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier Gen Tukur Gusau, released a statement on February 26, 2024, clarifying the Nigerian Army’s position on the matter.

He stated that the Defence Headquarters had been informed of the malicious and unfounded article and that the allegations were completely false.

He also reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting the seat of power and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as its dedication to the protection and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has consistently emphasized the military’s commitment to upholding democracy in Nigeria.

The Defence Headquarters has condemned the rumors, which it considers to be a figment of the publisher’s imagination, and has called on relevant security agencies to take appropriate action against the Sahara Reporters for spreading false information.

The Nigerian Army’s dismissal of the coup rumors is a reassuring reminder of the military’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s democracy.

It is important for the public to be aware of the facts and to trust in the Nigerian Army’s dedication to maintaining stability and security in the country.
