Afenifere Urges Yoruba People to Refrain from Protests Amid Economic Hardship

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has urged the Yoruba people not to participate in protests over the current economic hardship in Nigeria.

The organization’s elders’ caucus chairman, Reuben Fasoranti, acknowledged the difficulties faced by the people but emphasized the need for understanding and patience as the government implements measures aimed at bringing prosperity to the country.

The appeal comes as residents of several states, including the six southwestern states of Nigeria (Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Ekiti, and Oyo), as well as Kano, Niger, Sokoto, and Osun, have staged protests to express their dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living.

Despite the outcry, Afenifere maintains that the economic measures taken by the Federal Government, though difficult, are necessary for long-term stability and growth.

Fasoranti’s statement acknowledges the hardships faced by the Yoruba people and other Nigerian citizens, but it also highlights the government’s commitment to addressing the root causes of the country’s economic challenges.

The organization believes that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to resolving the issues inherited from previous years and that the current measures are part of a larger strategy to restore economic prosperity and stability to Nigeria.

Afenifere’s call for the Yoruba people to refrain from participating in protests is a reminder of the importance of unity and patience during challenging times.

The organization’s stance on the government’s economic measures demonstrates its belief in the potential for long-term growth and stability, despite the current hardships faced by the Nigerian people.
