Nigerian Army Announces Housing and Insurance Benefits for Troops Fighting Insecurity

The Nigerian Army has announced plans to construct personalized residences for soldiers engaged in tackling insecurity.

This initiative is designed to provide housing upon retirement, ensuring the well-being of troops as they transition to civilian life.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, made this announcement during the inauguration of the First Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference 2024 in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Army’s commitment to its soldiers’ welfare is evident in the introduction of new programs aimed at boosting morale and well-being.

Among these initiatives, the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) seeks to address the challenge of securing personal accommodation for soldiers post-service.

The Nigerian Army has instructed the Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) to reserve five percent of the AHOOAS Scheme in every estate for allocation to soldiers with operations-related disabilities.

This move ensures that the scheme is inclusive and responsive to the needs of soldiers facing such challenges.

Furthermore, the Nigerian Army has doubled the premiums disbursed to beneficiaries of different insurance schemes without a corresponding rise in contributions.

This measure is intended to support the dependents of troops in unforeseen circumstances, providing a safety net for the families of those who serve.

The Nigerian Army’s efforts to improve the welfare of its personnel demonstrate a strong commitment to the well-being of its soldiers, both during and after their service.

These initiatives, including the construction of personalized residences and the enhancement of insurance benefits, are a testament to the Nigerian Army’s dedication to its troops and their families.
