Gunmen struck Makera town in the early hours of May 3, killing one resident and abducting two others. The raid happened around 2:30 am in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Police sources say the attackers stormed the community along the Kontagora–Lagos highway without warning. They opened fire on residents as panic spread through the town.

A man named Aminu Yusufa was shot during the assault. He died at a Makera hospital while receiving emergency treatment.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the killing on social media. He noted that bandits also seized a married couple, Alhaji Umaru Garba and Hajiya Marwa Umaru, from their home.

According to him, the attackers whisked the pair away to an undisclosed location. Their current whereabouts remain unknown.

Officers from the Divisional Police headquarters mobilised quickly after receiving distress calls. They assembled a joint team combining police personnel with local vigilante members.

Rescue efforts have begun for the kidnapped victims. Investigators are working to identify and locate those responsible for the attack.

In a separate incident just hours earlier, residents of Woko community in Borgu fought back against raiders. The attack occurred on the night of May 2 around 10:15 pm.

Villagers organised themselves and mounted stiff resistance when gunfire erupted. Their coordinated response forced the bandits to retreat.

One attacker was killed during the confrontation. Several others fled the scene with bullet wounds.

Police tactical teams arrived alongside hunters and vigilantes. They recovered the dead bandit's body and a locally fabricated shotgun from the scene.

Authorities have increased patrols in both affected areas. Investigations into the two separate incidents are continuing.
