Niger Delta Communities Seek Court Intervention to Remove NDDC Chairman Ebie

In a significant development in the Niger Delta region, several communities in Bayelsa State have filed a lawsuit against the appointment of Mr. Chiedu Ebie as the chairman of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The plaintiffs argue that Ebie’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu is in violation of the NDDC Act, as he does not come from an oil-producing area with the highest quantum of oil production.

The suit, filed in the Federal High Court in Abuja, has garnered attention as it brings to light the concerns of the Niger Delta communities regarding the appointment of the NDDC chairman.

The plaintiffs, representing the communities of Bisangbene, Agge, and Amatu 1, have also named President Tinubu, Senate President, Attorney-General of the Federation, and the NDDC as respondents in the case.

The plaintiffs are seeking a nullification of Ebie’s appointment and an injunction preventing him from assuming office or acting as the chairman of the NDDC.

They argue that the appointment of Ebie, who comes from a community with minimal oil production, is against the provisions of the NDDC Act.

The case has raised questions about the legality of the appointment process and the adherence to the NDDC Act.

The plaintiffs are calling for a fair and transparent process that ensures the appointment of a qualified and suitable candidate for the position of NDDC chairman.

The lawsuit has garnered significant attention as it highlights the concerns of the Niger Delta communities and their determination to ensure that the NDDC chairman’s appointment is in line with the provisions of the NDDC Act.

The case is scheduled for a hearing on March 12, and its outcome could have far-reaching implications for the region and the NDDC.
