NGO Trains Journalists in Sokoto on Disaster Management and Reporting

In a recent development in Sokoto State, an international non-governmental organization called Christian Aid, in collaboration with Coperazione International and funded by the European Union, has trained journalists on the importance of the Geographical Information System (GIS) in their reportage.

The training focused on the significance of GIS in reporting issues related to disaster reduction and social safety.

The facilitatora, Engineer Omobhude Kingsley, emphasized the importance of using GIS in order to bring accurate and comprehensive reporting of events.

This would not only create more awareness of disasters in different areas, especially among local communities, but also make the reports more acceptable and appealing to readers.

Talatu Aliyu, the Monitoring Evaluation Accountability Manager of the agency, said that the main goal of the training was to create more avenues for journalists in the state to know more about disaster reporting.

She called on journalists to ensure proper usage of GIS in order to bring accurate and timely data to the public.

This initiative by Christian Aid is a great step in enhancing the quality of disaster reporting in Sokoto State.

The training provided journalists with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively report on disaster management, thereby contributing to increased awareness and preparedness among the local communities.
