The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) external results, revealing that 50,066 out of 74,342 candidates, representing 67.35%, have scored five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
The results were announced by the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NECO, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
In the 2023 SSCE external exams, a total of 74,950 candidates registered, with 74,342 participating in the exams.
Out of these, 62,530 candidates, representing 84.11%, scored five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics. The candidates were tested in 29 subjects.
However, the release of the results also brought to light cases of malpractice. Two supervisors in Oyo and Lagos states were blacklisted for poor supervision, inability to control the candidates, and aiding and abetting examination malpractice.
Additionally, one center in Borno State was blacklisted for sharing WhatsApp messages to candidates, which was considered as aiding and abetting malpractice.
A total of 8,518 candidates were booked for various forms of exam malpractice, a decrease from the 11,419 cases in 2022.
The release of the 2023 SSCE external results by NECO provides valuable insights into the performance of students in Nigeria.
The results also highlight the need for continued efforts to curb exam malpractice and ensure a fair and transparent testing environment for all students.
