The immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, refuted allegations of fraudulent diversion of constituency projects, describing the claims as baseless, malicious, and orchestrated to tarnish his reputation.
In a statement issued by his media office, Elumelu dismissed a recent report circulating on social media that alleged he was under investigation for mismanaging constituency project funds. The statement labeled the report as "completely false and criminally libelous," stating that it was a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and malign his unblemished record of public service.
“For emphasis, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu never diverted any constituency project or conducted himself in any fraudulent manner whatsoever to warrant such investigation as reported,” the statement read.
Highlighting his track record, Elumelu’s media office pointed to his significant contributions during his tenure as a lawmaker. These included delivering critical infrastructure and human capital development projects such as roads, electricity, schools, hospitals, ICT centers, and vocational facilities across the 58 communities of the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.
"It is on record that all the projects executed under Rt. Hon. Elumelu were transparently delivered to the admiration of constituents and stakeholders," the statement continued, adding that the allegations amounted to "deliberate character assassination."
The media office also criticized the lack of a byline in the report and its reliance on unnamed sources, describing the publication as clandestinely sponsored to serve malicious interests.
In response to the false claims, Elumelu has directed his legal team and relevant agencies, including the Directorate of State Services (DSS), to initiate necessary actions to address the issue and ensure redress.
The statement also appeals to media professionals to adhere to the ethics of journalism by verifying facts before publication to avoid spreading misinformation.
Rt. Hon. Elumelu assured his supporters and constituents that he remains committed to public service and transparency, emphasizing that the allegations were nothing more than a futile attempt to undermine his reputation
