NCC’s Strategic Vision: Driving Telecoms Industry Growth through Data, Collaboration, and Compliance

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled its four-point agenda to facilitate the growth of the telecommunications industry within the next five years.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, highlighted the key focus areas of collaboration, data, compliance, and digitalization during a meeting with Editors in Lagos.

The NCC’s strategic vision emphasizes the importance of collaboration with critical stakeholders in the telecom industry, including consumers, the government, operators, and stakeholders in other industries.

The Commission aims to work closely with these stakeholders to ensure the continued growth of the industry and to address any challenges that may arise.

Data will be a crucial component of the NCC’s regulatory activities, as the Commission seeks to drive the collection of a significant amount of data to inform its decision-making process.

This data-driven approach will enable the NCC to make more informed decisions and better project the work that the Commission is doing to promote the growth of the telecom sector and the Nigerian economy.

Compliance is another key focus area for the NCC. The Commission is empowered by the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA 2003) to hold licensees to their obligations.

The NCC aims to help its licensees meet these obligations by deploying technology to make life easier for them. For example, with the help of technology, licensees can renew their licenses more efficiently.

Digitalization is the fourth pillar of the NCC’s strategic vision. The Commission aims to promote the digitalization of the Nigerian economy by leveraging the expansion of the digital ecosystem.

This includes supporting innovative developments in the telecoms industry and improving the nation’s ability to compete in the global space.

The NCC’s strategic vision for the next five years is poised to drive the growth of the telecoms industry in Nigeria through a combination of collaboration, data, compliance, and digitalization.

By working closely with stakeholders and leveraging the power of technology, the NCC is well-positioned to ensure the continued growth and success of the Nigerian telecommunications sector.
