NASS aims to train heads of MDAs on how to comply with legislation and avoid violating resolutions

The National Assembly has resolved to train the heads of government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) on the need to comply with legislative decisions.

The training, in partnership with Green Mount Consulting Ltd., is also aimed at preventing MDAs from disregarding resolutions made by NASS in order to enhance democracy and good governance.

This was disclosed by Alhaji Mohammed Aminu, Managing Partner, GMCL, in a statement issued to the press in Abuja on Sunday.

The workshop, which will take place on Nov. 7 and 8, will focus on the theme “The need for legislative compliance in advancing democracy and improving good governance.”

He said there had been growing worry about the lack of adherence of MDAs to resolutions passed by the Nigerian Senate and the House of Representatives.

He said the workshop would engage MDAs in constructive dialogue to find effective solutions that would ensure the harmony of government actions with legislative resolutions.

He said the workshop would provide a platform for extensive discussions, knowledge sharing, and the development of practical strategies to promote legislative compliance.

Aminu said several distinguished guests would attend the workshop, including the Senate President, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, and the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

He said the workshop would cover a wide range of topics, including the legal framework governing legislative compliance, the roles and responsibilities of various government entities, and case studies highlighting successful compliance initiatives.

He said the workshop would feature panel discussions, expert presentations, and interactive sessions where participants would gain a deeper understanding of the significance of legislative compliance in strengthening democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

He said the workshop was expected to be a turning point in addressing the issues related to legislative compliance in Nigeria.

“Legislative compliance is essential for the democratic process and the achievement of good governance.”

He said this would help to create a more accountable and transparent government, ultimately benefiting the people of Nigeria.

He added that the outcome of the training would enable heads of MDAs to work towards a Nigeria where legislative compliance played a key role in shaping the nation’s future.
