NAPPS Sports Fiesta Ignites Talent Hunt in Ughelli South, Draws Top Govt Officials

The Ughelli South Chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has successfully staged its 5th Interschool Sports Fiesta, attracting top government officials and education stakeholders, with renewed calls for stronger integration of sports into academic development.

The event, held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Okwagbe Secondary School, brought together private schools across the local government area in a vibrant display of athletic talent, unity, and healthy competition.

The Executive Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Olorogun Dr. Lucky Avweromre, who was represented by his Special Adviser, Apostle Tejiri Ejarogan, commended the organisers for sustaining the initiative, describing sports as a vital complement to academic excellence.

He noted that the competition underscores the importance of holistic education, adding that the efforts of private school proprietors continue to support government’s drive toward quality education delivery.

Also speaking was the Chief Inspector of Education in the area, Lady (Mrs) Grace Adakre, who represented the Commissioners for Primary and Secondary Education, lauded the chapter for its consistency in promoting both academic and sporting excellence.

She expressed satisfaction with the performance of private schools in the area, noting that the sports fiesta further demonstrates their capacity to contribute meaningfully to the development of well-rounded students.

According to her, initiatives like the fiesta help fulfill the three domains of learning—cognitive, affective, and psychomotor—emphasising that sports remain an integral part of education.

She urged private schools to sustain and expand participation in sporting activities, stressing that such exposure creates broader career opportunities for young people.

In his address, the Chairman of NAPPS Ughelli South Chapter, Comrade Joseph Kaki, described the 2026 edition as a resounding success, appreciating participating schools and stakeholders for their support.

He explained that the fiesta was designed to foster unity among private schools while serving as a platform for discovering and nurturing young talents in sports.

The event also featured the presentation of trophies to outstanding athletes and schools that excelled in various competitions, further highlighting the competitive spirit of the participants.

In addition, honorary awards were presented to notable personalities in recognition of their contributions to the growth of education and the association in the area.

Among the awardees were the Executive Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Lucky Avweromre; the Chief Inspector of Education, Lady Grace Adakre; Hon. Kpabor Disi; and Olorogun Emperor Napoleon, among others.

The event was chaired by the Councillor representing Jeremi Ward 3, Hon. Kpabor Disi, and witnessed the presence of educationists, community leaders, and school administrators.

The sports fiesta concluded on a high note, reinforcing the role of extracurricular activities in shaping the next generation of leaders and athletes in Ughelli South.
