NANS Threatens Protest Over Fee Hike and Lack of Palliatives in Osun State

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Osun State has threatened to stage a protest if the state government does not address issues concerning students’ welfare, including the indiscriminate hike in school fees and the poor state of facilities in state-owned higher institutions.

In a statement by the group’s spokesperson, Ogungbe Taiwo, NANS expressed disappointment in the government of Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke for neglecting student welfare and failing to provide adequate palliatives and infrastructure improvements in campuses.

The group also highlighted the terrible state of road networks across tertiary institutions in the state and the substandard lecture halls, which they say have been largely ignored by the government.

NANS has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government to address their demands, including the reversal of increased tuition fees, provision of scholarships, and improvement of infrastructure.

Failure to do so, they warn, will result in peaceful protests and roadblocks in Osogbo, the state capital.

The group’s demands have been endorsed by student union presidents across higher institutions in the state, and they urge the government to prioritize the welfare and rights of Nigerian students.

The situation in Osun State highlights the need for increased attention and action from the government to address the concerns of students, who are the future leaders of the country.

Ensuring a conducive learning environment and providing adequate support for students is crucial in fostering a better future for Nigeria.
