Myanmar seized over 1m stimulant tablets

Myanmar authorities have seized 1.1 million stimulant tablets in Mandalay Region and Shan State, according to a statement from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched two vehicles near a toll gate on Mandalay-Lashio road at around 3:45 p.m. local time on March 8 and confiscated 600,000 stimulant tablets.

In connection with the case, the police searched a car in Patheingyi township of Mandalay Region at 4:30 p.m. local time on the same day and confiscated 500,000 stimulant tablets.

The seized narcotics are worth over one billion kyats (over 476,190 U.S. dollars), it said.

Five suspects were charged in the case as further investigation was underway.
