Mother in Police Custody for allegedly killing her newborn baby

A 21-year-old mother, Esther Ojuko, was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing her newborn baby girl in Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.

She was arrested on Sunday after the residents of Oyede Avenue Plaza in Sango-Ota found the rotting body of a newborn baby in their area.

A trustworthy source told our Correspondent that the mother, who was thought to have given birth to the baby alive, allegedly killed her by putting the baby in a sack and tossing her into a nearby compound.

It was reported that when a foul smell filled the area, some residents started searching the area to find out where the smell was coming from.

They later found out that the smell was coming from a sack behind a compound in the area.

When they discovered it, one of the residents, who was simply called Ogunmuyiwa, went to the Sango-Ota Police Division to report the incident.

A police source said the mother might have been mentally unstable when she committed the crime.

Omolola Odutola, the Spokesperson of the State Police command, confirmed the incident and said the mother was in custody.

“The mother is being held for suspected murder. We have started a full investigation into the reasons behind her action. Meanwhile, the dead baby has been taken to the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy,” she said.
